Vào tháng 1 năm 2025, Meta Platforms đã thông báo Meta dừng tính năng Xác minh dữ kiện (Fact-Checking) của bên thứ ba trên Facebook và Instagram, thay vào đó là lựa chọn hệ thống " Ghi chú cộng đồng " do người dùng điều khiển tương tự như hệ thống của X (trước đây là Twitter). Sự thay đổi này đã làm dấy lên mối lo ngại trong số các chuyên gia và người dùng về khả năng gia tăng thông tin sai lệch và ngôn từ kích động thù địch trên các nền tảng này. Những người chỉ trích cho rằng việc dựa vào kiểm duyệt nội dung do người dùng tạo ra có thể kém hiệu quả hơn so với kiểm tra thông tin chuyên nghiệp, có khả năng làm trầm trọng thêm sự lan truyền của thông tin sai lệch.
